Call time is, in general, 1 hour before your first scheduled game. This is flexible, however, as we're all adults who have things going on. We will have officials meetings typically 20-25 minutes before first whistle, and would like for all officials to be present for those.
Please note, we would very strongly appreciate you letting one of your head officials know if you're running behind. If there are less than thirty minutes until first whistle and we haven't heard from you, it is possible that we will find a replacement.
Most people drive! There's free parking about a 2-5 minute walk from the front door. See the next section for a lot of details on parking.
Alternatively, the venue is also only about a 10 minute walk from the Decatur Marta station, on the Blue line! Bear in mind that the last westbound train departs at 1:14am, and the last eastbound trains depart at 1:26am, and a weird extra one at 1:54am that's on the schedule but I don't know if I trust it. So, if you're planning on closing down the after party, you'll need another way home.
There are two primary locations for parking on campus, as well as nearby options off campus: The "tennis court lots", the parking deck, and nearby street parking.
PLEASE keep the street parking on Dougherty St. itself available for ADA parking. While we cannot formally re-purpose this as it is public street parking, we do try to keep it available for those with mobility impairments.
The main lot that people park in (if you're there early enough) is the parking lot next to the tennis courts. You access this by taking a left off of Dougherty past the venue. These are for skaters and officials, but they do fill up.
A slightly farther but much more available option is the parking deck. This is located off of South McDonough, on (yes, really) Buttrick Dr, northwest of the venue. It's about a quarter-mile, or 5 minute, walk from the venue entrance.
Lastly, there is street parking in neighborhoods nearby. This is slightly closer than the parking deck, but also more haphazard as to how close of a spot is actually available. In the best case, it's closer than the tennis court lots. In the worst case, it's as far as the parking deck. The real disadvantage is that the best spots are off Candler, which is before you turn onto the one-way Dougherty St.
In general, ARD home games are played at Woodruff Athletic Complex, at Agnes Scott College. The address for the venue is 225 E Dougherty St., Decatur, GA 30030. Rarely, games will be played in the Atlanta Roller Derby Practice Facility. If this is the case, it will be made abundantly clear in advance.
When you arrive in the building, you will check in with will call up front as an official. Once you enter the building, the officials' room is downstairs in the weight room. Note that there may be Agnes Scott signs about an officials' dressing room upstairs - these are not for us. You can do downstairs by turning right at either the front or end of the entry hallway and entering the stairwell, or use the elevator to the right of the entryway. The officials' room is towards the rear of the building on the lower level - it's a weight room.
There is a restroom and locker room that you are welcome to use for changing across from the officials' room. There are technically showers, but they are not especially private, so I would strongly recommend other plans if your goal is to shower after the game(s).
Sports drinks, fruit (usually tangerines and bananas), and a sandwich tray are provided in the officials' room, and all are welcome to partake.
There will be food trucks at the venue. They're a rotating selection, but honestly usually very good. Be ready for a little bit of a line before and between bouts, however, and plan accordingly.
Additionally, we're super close to downtown Decatur, which has a lot of options. It's a very short drive, but it's about a 10-15 minute walk each way. If you're going between bouts, walking may not be a feasible option (unless you're real fast I guess), but it's a quick drive. People also sometimes Doordash food to the venue. (It's me, I'm people.)
Everyone is welcome to join us and the teams afterwards at the afterparty! Note that most skaters are required to assist with teardown, so people will trickle in somewhat slowly after the final bout of the evening. (Officials are welcome to assist with teardown, but it is not required unless you are also a league skater.
The afterparty location this year has generally been Trackside Tavern. This is very walkable, and I'd generally recommend that because their parking lot is super-packed garbage. It's just over a third of a mile, so about a 6-7 minute walk, at Google's estimated walking speed.
Trackside does have a full food menu, and they are usually reasonably quick to get food out. The vibe is dive bar punk, there are pool tables and art boards. The "Derby Section" is usually on the other side of the bar from where you enter, turning right as you pass the bar.
There's a lot of signage for the venue being 21+, however they are aware of the fact that they're the official ARD afterparty location, so if they ask for your ID and you're not 21, you can simply inform them that you're with Atlanta Roller Derby and don't plan on drinking.
